To Love is to be Vulnerable (OctPoWriMo Day 20)

The prompt today was to write a love poem. To me, a love poem is about being vulnerable, because if you truly love someone, anyone, you are opening yourself up to them. Being vulnerable can be scary but it is worth it.

They Say Love I Say

They say
love is power—
for if I love you
you have power
over me,
for your own personal gain
or satisfaction. It’s all about
your control
over me.
They say.

I say
love is not power—
for if I love you, truly,
I relinquish all power
over you,
your free will,
is not for my gain or
satisfaction. It’s all about
releasing my control
over you.
I say.

  1. So much to think about! Well done. (Just letting you know that your link on the OctPoWriMo site doesn't bring me here.)

    1. Not sure which link you came by, I clicked on the link in the link up and it brought me here.

  2. I like the interpretation of Brene Brown's words. Well done.

  3. Love is such a powerful force and most mysterious. I do believe that true love is about vulnerability and allowing oneself to be vulnerable. Thank you for sharing your poem with us at OctPoWriMo.

  4. Real love is never a bad thing. Unfortunately, at least in my own case, there have been things that weren't really love but I convinced myself they were.
